Chickens and their eggs

Here at Battle Creek Poultry we have Americauna, Jersey Giant, Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, and "easter egger" chickens.  They all have one thing in common and that is they all produce a lot of eggs.

We collect our eggs daily and personally inspect and wash each egg.  We do have roosters for flock protection and reproduction.

If you are looking for a chicken to eat, and not eggs, we can help with that too.  Keep reading this page for more details on that.

As of March 2024 we charge $5.00 per dozen for chicken eggs.

Yellow yolks vs. richer orange yolks - what does it mean?  (Battle Creek Poultry provides orange yolks)

Want a TLDR?  Orange yolks are not inherently more or less healthy to eat, but are generally more tasty!

Meat Chickens!

Our second round of Cornish Cross chickens for 2026 will be prepared for sale on July 11 and 12.  If you would like one that is never frozen, stop by on Sunday, July 12 or Monday, July 13.  After that, the will be frozen to keep them fresh.  Remember - our chicken is so fresh that the meat is still a bit stiff and needs to relax so we strongly recommend brining your chicken for at least 24 hours before cooking.

This is our last set of Cornish Cross meat chickens for the year, availability is limited (There are only 23 left as of June 8) so don't miss out!

We have a new simpler plan for chicken sales.  Many of our customers had some trouble planning their budgets for chickens and so to answer that need we now charge just $25/chicken.  The chickens we raise are usually between 7 and 10 pounds. We know that does not compete with grocery store sale prices, but while we cannot compete with them on price, they cannot match our freshness and quality!

Let's face it - lots of people love chicken - its delicious and tender.  But have you ever eaten really fresh chicken?  Not chicken that was mass grown in a warehouse away from the light of day and the processed and then frozen and stashed away for a few months.  But have you eaten a bird that was raised in a healthy environment and butchered recently?  Try one of ours and you will know that there is a big difference!

We are raising and preparing for sale several Cornish Cross chickens.  They will be butchered in mid-May through mid-June and cooled before freezing.   Place your order today and let us know when you want to pick up your chicken and we will make this happen.

Our birds get lots of fresh air and sunshine and natural foods in addition to their feed.

These are Cornish Cross meat chickens.  They were raised with fresh air and sunshine while getting their high-protein feed supplemented with natural grasses.   Any that do not sell within three days will be frozen, so you can get more later on.

Chlorinated chickens?  Not at Battle Creek Poultry.  We frequently wash our work surfaces with bleach, but we dry them before putting your bird on there in order to prepare it!  We DO NOT bleach our chickens as it done in some commercial processors.  https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-47440562
